RE: EDconnect Version 5.2 Required for Transmission of 2003-2004 COD Common Record Files
DATE: May 9th, 2003

Direct Loan and Pell submissions for the 2003-2004 cycle need to be sent under the new COD Common Record (COMRECIN) message class to the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system. In order to transmit COMRECIN files exported from 2003-2004 EDExpress Version 9.1, you need to use EDconnect Version 5.2

To find out which version of EDconnect you currently have, start the program and go to Help | About EDconnect.

COMRECIN files transmitted using EDconnect Versions 5.0 or 5.1 will be rejected by your SAIG mailbox and will not be picked up by COD for processing. You will not normally see an error message in EDconnect if you are transmitting COMRECIN files with an earlier release than Version 5.2; however, you will not receive COD Response (or "acknowledgment" ) files under message class COMRECOP for your data submissions.

Because the COMRECIN files are not being picked up by COD, COD will have no record of the COD Document IDs (or "batch IDs"). If you have sent COMRECIN files with EDconnect Versions 5.0 or 5.1, after upgrading to EDconnect Version 5.2 you can resend the same files without receiving duplicate Document ID rejects.

EDconnect Version 5.2 is available on the Department of Education's FSAdownload Web site, located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov. Click on the "Software" link on the left side of the opening page. On the next page, scroll down to the "EDconnect" link and click it. On the following page, scroll down to the "Software" section. Choose either "Full Download" to download the installer in one package, or download the individual disks by clicking on Disk 1 through Disk 8, saving each file to the same location on your hard drive. If prompted, be sure to select "Save this program to disk" (which means your hard drive) rather than "Run this program from its current location" whether you are downloading the full download or the individual disks.

EDconnect Versions 5.0 and 5.1 may be upgraded to EDconnect Version 5.2. If you are using EDconnect Version 5.0, you may upgrade directly to EDconnect Version 5.2.

If you have any questions regarding this message, or need help downloading or installing EDconnect 5.2, please contact CPS/WAN Technical Support at 800/330-5947 or via e-mail at CPSWAN@NCS.COM.
