Summary: 2002-2003 Student Guide Correction

Posted on August 19, 2002

We are posting a correction to the 2002-2003 Student Guide (see pages 20 and 21), regarding the requirement (as currently stated) that Federal PLUS Loan and Direct PLUS Loan applicants must file a FAFSA. This statement is an error; these applicants are not required to file a FAFSA, although we would encourage them to have their children do so. The correct information should read as follows:

How do my parents apply for a Direct PLUS Loan?

Your parents must complete a Direct PLUS Loan application and promissory note, contained in a single form that you get from your school's financial aid office.

How do my parents apply for a FFEL PLUS Loan?

Your parents must complete and submit a PLUS Loan application, available from your school, a lender, or your state guaranty agency. After the school completes its portion of the application, it must be sent to a lender for evaluation.
