Re: SAIG Network Password Expiration
On 5/19/02, the SAIG mailboxing system was upgraded to enforce the existing 120-day network password expiration period. This is an important process to ensure secure data transfer. We would like to provide you with information on managing your network password.
For EDconnect Users
Although EDconnect will warn you when your user password will expire as you log in, you will not receive a warning about your network password. In a future EDconnect update, SAIG will implement enhancements to warn users of approaching network password expiration dates.
To check your current network password expiration date:
1. Select New from the File menu and select Security View from the list of views. The Security View will appear on your screen.
2. Highlight the desired security/administration group in the Security View, click with the right mouse button, and select Properties from the pop-up menu, or select Properties from the Edit menu. The Group Properties dialog box will appear on your screen.
3. Select the Network tab. Your network password expiration date is located to the right of the word Expiration. Note: If you do not see a password expiration date, transmit a network password change (see below) and this field will populate with a date.
4. You can make a note on your calendar or planner to change the password on or before this date.
If you encounter "Error 3: Contact customer service for details on this error" during a transmission or in the Activity Log, this means your network password has expired and you will need to transmit a network password change. We encourage you to change your password prior to the expiration date to avoid receiving this error message.
To change your network password:
3. Select the Network tab and verify that the appropriate TG Number appears in the text box at the top of the tab.
4. Enter your new SAIG password in the text box after New under TG Password and enter it again in the Verify text box.
5. Select the Network and Local option under Change Type, if it is not already selected, and click the OK button. A message box will notify you that EDconnect has added a password change record to the Transmission Queue. Click OK to return to the Security View.
6. Select Now from the Transmission menu. Your PC will connect to the SAIG and transmit your new password.
For Mainframe and Midrange EasyAccess Client Users
When your network password has expired the following warning message will display in your job output logs, "332 Change password required." Instructions for changing your network password are available in the SAIG Host Communication Guide for Mainframe and Midrange Users v1.2. This document is available at http://www.fsadownload.ed.gov. We encourage you to change your password prior to the expiration date to avoid receiving this error message.
