RE: Availability of 2002-2003 Direct Loan Technical Reference (March 2002 Change Pages)

The Department is pleased to announce the March 2002 posting of the 2002-2003 Direct Loan Technical Reference on the US Department of Education’s Student Financial Assistance Download (SFAdownload) Web site (fsadownload.ed.gov).

The document will also be posted by April 12 on the Department's IFAP Web site (at the following link: ifap.ed.gov/IFAPWebApp/currentDLTReferencePag.jsp).

The Direct Loan Technical Reference provides programmer specifications and record layouts for postsecondary institutions participating in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program that need to design software systems to interface with ED's software for Direct Loan data.

The document will be posted in both PDF and Word formats. Follow the instructions below to download the document from the SFAdownload Web site:

To download this document:

1) Go to fsadownload.ed.gov.

2) Click on the "References and Documents" link.

3) Click on the "2002-2003 Direct Loan Technical Reference" link; you can select Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat format.

4) Click on "Save as" (Acrobat) or "Save it to disk" (Word), designate a target directory for the document file, and click OK to save.

5) Open the saved file in the appropriate program (Acrobat or Word) to view and print the document.

NOTE: *The page numbers throughout all of Section 1--Custom Layouts (including parts 1, 2, 3, and 4) have shifted due to the smaller size of the new and improved Direct Loan Message Class matrix.

Please discard your old 1-Custom Layouts section (including parts 1, 2, 3, and 4) and replace with the new 1-Custom Layouts section (including parts 1, 2, 3, and 4) from the March update of the 2002-2003 Direct Loan Technical Reference.
