SUBJECT: FAFSA on the Web and PIN Site Availability - Update (#2)

We are happy to relay to you that the PIN site has been fully accessible and experiencing normal response times since January 8 at about 4:30pm EST. We had informed you earlier on January 8 that we had been experiencing intermittent access problems.

The FAFSA on the Web site remains accessible, as it has been since 2002-03 start-up on January 1 (except for our normal maintenance window in the early morning hours on Sunday).

From January 1 through January 8, 2002, we received 105,871applications over the Web---a 50% increase over the number received on those days last year. Of those 105,871 applications, 69,194 are for 2002-03.

We remain committed to providing quality, reliable service on SFA's web sites, and routinely monitor activity on the sites so that we can respond promptly if service degrades. We also maintain close contact with our call center staff (1-800-4FedAid) for problems that may be reported by customers.

We will continue to update you on the status of our web sites, and our overall FAFSA processing.
