RE: Updating the Federal School Code File

Once again it is time to update the Federal School Code File so that the paper Federal School Code List can be printed. The paper Federal School Code List is sent to high schools, libraries, and postsecondary schools. The Federal School Code List enables a student to list your school on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, so your school may receive the student's record electronically. In addition to creating the Federal School Code List, the Federal School Code File is used to create the school list within EDExpress, FAFSA Express, FAFSA on the Web, Renewal on the Web, and Corrections on the Web. It is also used by the MDE processing the paper Free Applications for Federal Student Aid.

A letter was recently mailed to your school requesting the contact person, school name, address, and code be reviewed for any errors or changes. If your contact person, school name, address and code are correct, DO NOT do anything. However, if a change is required, please sign the letter and return it with all changes, no later than July 16, 2001, to:

U.S. Department of Education

7th and D Streets, S.W.

ROB- 3, Room 4635

Washington, D.C. 20202

Attn: Jacqueline Strickland

or FAX to (202) 401-1637

Information received after July 16, 2001, will be updated on the Federal School Code file for 2002-2003 but will not be included in the 2002-2003 paper Federal School Code List.

If you have any questions, please call CPS WAN Customer Service at: 1-800-330-5947, option 2. NOTE: No change to your code's information can be made via the telephone.
