Summary: Third installment of SFA to the Internet migration communication

Posted on June 15, 2001

SFA is pleased to bring you the third installment of SFA to the Internet migration communication. Testing and development continue on the new SFA to the Internet software products. We are also continuing to gather volunteers to be early adopters of the project. Simply contact CPS/WAN Technical Support at (800) 330-5947, or via email at cpswan@ncs.com.

In this third communication installment we will:

  • Discuss how the mailbox system will default to SAIG as of December 19.
  • Will my older version of EDconnect be needed after I migrate to the SAIG version?
  • What happens to my activity log in EDconnect when I install the new version for SAIG?

What happens after the December 18 migration deadline?

In order for you to retrieve data from your Title IV WAN mailbox you will need to be migrated by December 18, 2001. If you haven’t migrated by the deadline, Title IV WAN will automatically change your mailbox status to the new system after that date. That allows your data to have a place to reside so we can retire the old mailboxing system. Your data will be available but only using the new EDconnect software or Easy Access software if you transmit data not using a PC. This is why it’s important that you migrate during the scheduled period to avoid delays in receiving processed SFA data.

Will my older version of EDconnect be needed after I migrate to the SAIG version?

When you migrate to the new version of EDconnect, you will need to use the old version one more time to receive any data that may have been in the midst of processing during migration. So for example when you migrate, you should wait a day or two and then perform a receive all request using the old version of EDconnect to gather any files which may have been processed during migration.

Will the activity log from the current version of EDconnect automatically be loaded in the Internet version of EDconnect?

The new version of EDconnect will have a new database and so the activity log information will not translate from the old EDconnect to the new EDconnect. We recommend you back up that version of EDconnect if you will need the activity log information for future reference.

How do I find out more about this project?

We will continue to send out communications twice a month through the end of July 2001 and then weekly throughout the migration process. Each communication will be entitled "SFA to the Internet status update". If you happen to miss any of the updates, all of this information will be kept collectively at

http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/sfatech/sfafaq.html. We would encourage you to bookmark this location.

You can also access this from the school portal (http://sfa4schools.sfa.ed.gov), SFATECH, or IFAP web sites. If you have questions, please contact CPS/WAN Technical Support at (800) 330-5947, or via email at cpswan@ncs.com. There is no charge for technical support from CPS/WAN Technical Support.
