Re: Incorrect AAI Offset in 2001-2002 Formulas 1 and 4

We have determined that the parameter for the Alternate Adjusted Available Income (AAI) offset for EFC calculations in formulas 1 (Dependent) and 4 (Simplified Dependent) was incorrect in the Central Processing System (CPS). The Alternate AAI is used to determine the EFC for other than 9-month enrollment. On February 7, 2001 we made the correction in the CPS from an incorrect Alternate AAI of 3,930 to the correct value of 3,530. Therefore, all records processed after February 7 have the correct calculation in formulas 1 and 4 for Alternate AAI.

This error has a very minor affect on most dependent applicants' EFCs for other than 9-month enrollment. Because institutions use 9-month EFCs to determine Federal Pell Grant eligibility, this error will have no effect on Pell Grant award amounts. Nevertheless, the last transaction for all applicants that met EFC Formula 1 or 4 between January 1 and February 7, 2001 will be reprocessed to ensure that they have a correct EFC for all enrollment periods.

SARs from the reprocessed records will be printed and mailed to students and ISIRs will be sent to schools. A total of 10 batches will be necessary. The process date for the first five batches will be February 28, 2001 and the second five batches will have a process date of March 1, 2001.

The following are additional ways to identify the reprocessed ISIRs:

* Reprocessed Reason Code (ISIR field #264, positions 1540-1541) will equal "04"

* System Generated Indicator (ISIR field #135, positions 600) will equal "Z".

* Comment Code 172 will be present in ISIR field 261.

* System Generated message class: SYSG02OP

* Batch Numbers: #Y200000020010226000001 through #Y200000020010227000010
