Re: 2000-2001 Erroneous Transactions will be Reprocessed

The Central Processing System (CPS) will reprocess transactions for 3,523 students because of a problem that occurred from September 15 through September 25, 2000. This reprocessing results from an error that occurred when CPS set the EFC Adjustment flag on records when an EFC Adjustment was not requested. Therefore, these transactions erroneously skipped the edits that EFC Adjustment records normally skip (rejects W and 11, and the number in household vs. number in college edits). Skipping these edits also affects the calculation of the EFC. The problem was fixed and records processed after September 25, 2000 are not affected.

The CPS will reprocess the transactions for the affected students on Monday, October 16, 2000. SARs will be printed and mailed to the students and ISIRs will be sent to schools on Wednesday, October 18, 2000.

Reprocessed ISIRs can be identified by the following:

* Reprocessed Reason Code (ISIR field #262, positions 1490-1491) will equal 04

* System Generated Indicator (ISIR field #135, positions 554) will equal "Z"

* Comment code 172 will be present in ISIR field 259

* System Generated message class: SYSG01OP

* Batch number: #Y100000020001016000001

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. If you have any questions, please contact CPS Customer Service at 800/330-5947, option 2, or via email at CPS@NCS.COM. You will not be charged for calls relating to this reprocessing.
