PublicationDate: 9/26/2000 Summary: 2000-01 NSLDS Postscreening Records Author: PSS - Program Systems Service Posted on September 26, 2000 To: All Destination Points From: Application Processing Student Financial Assistance Programs Date: September 26, 2000 Subj: 2000-01 NSLDS Postscreening Records Since July 5, 2000, approximately 18,000 records sent to the Central Processing System by NSLDS for postscreening were not processed properly by the CPS. Therefore, ISIRs and SARs have not been generated when postscreening criteria have been met (defaults and overpayments). These 18,000 NSLDS postscreening records will be processed by CPS this week. ISIRs will be available by Thursday, September 28, 2000. In addition, SARs will be sent to those students who are affected . NSLDS postscreening ISIRs can be identified by: comment code '004' in ISIR field 259 a system generated indicator of 'N' in ISIR field 135 As previous guidance on NSLDS postscreening has stated (See GEN-98-14), schools are not liable for disbursements made on otherwise eligible SARs/ISIRs prior to the receipt by the school of the postscreening information. However, no additional disbursements of Title IV aid can be made until the problem is resolved. In addition, if the information provided to schools on SARs and ISIRs produced as a result of postscreening show that the student was not eligible for Title IV aid already disbursed, the school must follow existing regulations and procedures that may require the student to repay such aid. We would like to thank New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority for bringing this matter to our attention.
