PublicationDate: 9/8/2000 Summary: Selected 2000-2001 Transactions With Incorrect SSN Match Flag will be Reprocessed Author: General Manager: SFA Student Channel Posted on September 8, 2000 To: Financial Aid Administrators From: Central Processing System Re: Selected 2000-2001 Transactions With Incorrect SSN Match Flag will be Reprocessed The Central Processing System (CPS) is reprocessing records for a very small group of students (approximately 500 students) for a problem that occurred with transactions processed between January 14, 2000 and June 5, 2000. This reprocessing results from an error that occurred when CPS sent a correction record to the Social Security Administration (SSA) for match purposes with the incorrect social security number (SSN). Records processed after June 5, 2000 are not affected. The CPS is reprocessing records for students who meet the following criteria: * The student's SSN is corrected on a transaction after the initial (01 transaction) application. * Additional corrections to name and/or date of birth are then made to that corrected transaction but no change was made to the SSN. Instead of sending the corrected SSN from the previously corrected transaction, CPS sent the original SSN to the SSA for rematching. This resulted in a potentially incorrect match flag for the student. For example, the student submitted a correction to his SSN that generated an 02 transaction. The student then submitted a correction to name and/or date of birth on the 02 transaction but did not correct or verify the SSN. Although the corrected name and/or date of birth was sent for the rematch, the most updated SSN was not the one sent. The resulting 03 transaction would have the incorrect match flag. The CPS is reprocessing the records for the affected students starting on Wednesday, September 06, 2000. SARs will be printed and mailed to the students and ISIRs will be sent to schools on Friday, September 08, 2000. Records affected by this problem but that were corrected by the student or school after June 5, 2000 will not be reprocessed. Reprocessed ISIRs can be identified by the following: * Reprocessed Reason Code (ISIR field #262, positions 1490-1491) will equal 03 * System Generated Indicator (ISIR field #135, positions 554) will equal "Z" * Comment code 172 will be present in ISIR field 259 * System Generated message class: SYSG01OP * Batch number: #Y100000020000906000001 Please note that not all reprocessed records will necessarily receive a valid SSN Match Flag of 4. SSA will assign the appropriate match flag that corresponds with the correct identifiers we will give them. We regret the inconvenience this may have caused you. We apologize for the late date of reprocessing, but we did not identify the specifics of the problem until after extensive analysis. If you have any questions, please contact CPS Customer Service at 800/330-5947, option 2, or via email at CPS@NCS.COM. You will not be charged for calls relating to this reprocessing.
