RE: Beta Testers Needed for New Renewal Applications Software

The U.S. Department of Education is recruiting schools to perform software beta testing on its newest product, Renewal Applications for Windows Version 1.0.

Renewal Applications for Windows, Version 1.0 has been designed to assist schools in submitting Type 2 (By SSN) Renewal Application Destination (RAD) data requests for the upcoming 2001-2002 processing cycle to the Central Processing System (CPS). The software also allows users to import and print paper Renewal FAFSAs and other reports based on information contained in RAD data files (RADD02OP) and assists in the interpretation of RAD request error files (EREP02OP).

The beta test for Renewal Applications for Windows, Version 1.0 will take place between September 14 and September 28, 2000. Participating sites will download the beta version of the software and a test RADD02OP file from an NCS/ED FTP site and examine various functionality, reporting any issues or problems to CPS Customer Service for research and resolution.

The Department is especially interested in recruiting beta sites who normally file Type 2 (By SSN) RAD requests with the CPS through on-line query or by building an in-house request file.

If you are interested in participating in this beta test, please send an email to
CPS@NCS.COM by September 11, 2000, providing the following information:

1) School Name, Address, and TG#
2) Primary and Secondary Testing Contact name, phone number, email address and fax number
3) School type (IE. Four-year public university, 2-year private college, etc.)
4) Windows version (95, NT, 98)
5) Network type and version (if applicable)
6) Other ED products in use (EDExpress, Return of Title IV Funds, etc.)
7) Printer type/model
8) Do you have FTP download capability?

The Department will select participants with a wide variety of processing environments to ensure the most diverse and thorough testing of the software is performed.

CPS Customer Service will call or e-mail all interested schools by September 12, 2000. If your school is selected, further information will be provided.

We thank you for your interest in helping to ensure Renewal Applications for Windows, Version 1.0 is a superior software product. We look forward to hearing from you.
