Re: FY 1998 Official Cohort Default Rates

The Department will mail the Fiscal Year (FY) 1998 Official Cohort Default Rates to school presidents via overnight mail on September 28, 2000. The FY 1998 official cohort default rates represent those borrowers that have entered into repayment on certain Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) and William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (DL) Program loans during FY 1998 and defaulted (or met other specified conditions) during FY 1998 or FY 1999. Additional information on how cohort default rates are calculated and how to appeal an official cohort default rate can be found in the FY 1998 Official Cohort Default Rate Guide, or you may contact Default Management at (202) 708-6048 or via email at OSFA_IPOS_Default_Management_Division@ed.gov.

Sincerely,

Victoria Edwards, Acting Director
