PublicationDate: 7/3/2000 Summary: Warning: Verification Status Code "W" Author: General Manager: SFA School Channel Posted July 3, 2000 To: All Destination Points FROM: Pell Grant Processing RE: Warning: Verification Status Code "W" During the week of July 03, RFMS will send through TIV WAN two text messages (PGTX message class) in regard to students still listed in RFMS with a Verification Status "W" (without documentation). Only those schools with students with a Verification Status "W" will receive the files. One text file contains Verification Status "W" summary information and critical date information. The other text file provides a listing of the students at your institution with Verification Code "W" status in RFMS. We are providing this special listing to help you identify the records of the students that need to be updated. Until we receive and accept an updated origination record with a corrected verification status code, RFMS will only accept one disbursement of up to one half of the scheduled award amount. We will reduce these student's accepted disbursement award amount to $0.00 if you have not reported an acceptable Verification Status Code for each student to us by August 15, 2000, 9:00 p.m. ET. Students with verification Status Code of "W" appear in the special listing for four reasons: - You reported the "W" because you elected to make one payment to the student prior to completion of the application data verification process under Section 668.58 Subpart E of the Student Assistance Provisions: or - The Student was selected for verification by the Central Processing System (CPS), i.e., an asterisk appears to the right of the EFC, and you reported "Not Selected" (N); or - You reported reprocessed (R) on the student's original application record (Transaction 01); or - You left the Verification Status code blank or reported an invalid code on your Pell Payment Data Record submission for that student. You and the Student must complete the verification process within 90 days from the applicant's last date of enrollment, or by August 31, 2000, whichever occurs first. (All such deadlines and submission dates for the 1999-2000 processing year are set forth in the Federal Register Notice Vol. 64, No. 146 from July 30, 1999, which can be found on the IFAP website (http://ifap.ed.gov) under the Current SFA Publications section under Federal Registers.) As soon as you complete verification of the application data, you must submit an acceptable Origination record revising the Verification status code. After the updated Origination record is accepted you may submit Disbursement record(s) for the remaining balance of the Pell award due the student. If no additional payment is due the student you do not need to do anything more than update the origination record. After August 15, 2000, RFMS will reduce all remaining students with a Verification Status Code of "W" to an accepted disbursement amount of $0.00 and make a corresponding reduction in your 1999-2000 Obligation amount. After that date we will also reject any student origination records for 1999-2000 submitted with a "W" Verification Status Code.
