RE: Pell Edit/Comment Code Guide

THIS MESSAGE: Announces the availability of a draft of the edit/comment code guide for Pell Grant Processing

The draft Edit/Comment Guide for the Federal Pell Grant Program is now
available on the IFAP website at
http://ifap.ed.gov under the electronic
announcement and under the Pell Grant Process areas.

In response to concerns expressed by the user community, the Pell
Customer Service Group has created a document to help provide guidance
when encountering comment and edit codes received during the processing
of Pell Grant records.

This document provides you with:

- The edit comment code number

- The comment associated with that edit number

- a plain English explanation of what that comment means

- a troubleshooter's guide on how to correct the conditions that
caused your batch or record to trigger that specific comment code.

We hope that this document is helpful in dealing with the edit/comment codes that you may encounter in processing your Pell records.

A final version of this document will be provided in the final version of the 2000-2001 Pell Technical Reference which we anticipate releasing at the end of May/early June.

Your comments or questions are welcome. Please call us at 1 800-4PGRANT (800-474-7268) or e-mail us at pell_systems@ed.gov.
