PublicationDate: 5/9/2000 Summary: Release of 2000-2001 EDExpress Version 6.2 Target Release Date - May 12, 2000 Author: General Manager: SFA Student Channel Posted on May 9, 2000 TO: All Destination Points FROM: U.S. Department of Education RE: Release of 2000-2001 EDExpress Version 6.2 Target Release Date - May 12, 2000 The U.S. Department of Education is pleased to announce the release of 2000-2001 EDExpress for Windows, Version 6.2. This release contains the Pell module for the 2000-2001 cycle and resolves several issues present in Version 6.1. All 2000-2001 EDExpress versions must be downloaded from the Department's SFAdownload Web site, located at http://fsadownload.ed.gov/index.htm. The 2000-2001 EDExpress Installation Guide and the Version 6.2 Cover Letter, which contain important information you should review as a software user, must also be downloaded from the SFAdownload Web site. Version 6.2 is available on the SFAdownload Web site in two formats. You can download the entire software in one file, called EDExpress62.exe, or you can download the software in nine separate installments, which can then be copied to a network drive or diskettes. Please review the download and installation instructions contained in the Cover Letter for more detail. Version 6.2 is an upgrade to Version 6.1. Version 6.1 must be installed prior to upgrading to Version 6.2 (unless you are performing a full installation of Version 6.2). Version 6.1 is also available for download from the SFAdownload Web site. Before upgrading, ensure you have a valid, reliable back-up of your current production 2000-2001 EDExpress database (Expres01.mdb). This step is extremely important! To upgrade from Version 6.1 to Version 6.2, select the Custom install option during your standalone or workstation installation, and mark the checkbox for any modules you use (so module fixes can be installed). Do NOT mark the "Database" checkbox unless you are performing a first-time installation or want to overwrite your Version 6.1 database. Remember, if you choose to overwrite your database, all data previously entered is lost. If you receive any prompts during the installation indicating an existing file was found and asking if you want to overwrite, click "Yes." After you upgrade from Version 6.1 to 6.2, reboot your PC, then log on to EDExpress to allow the software to perform a one-time only database update. This update loads important changes and fixes to your database structure. If you are running EDExpress in a network environment, you should first complete ALL of your workstation installations on ALL relevant production PCs, rebooting each PC as you finish the install, then access the software from ONE designated workstation to allow the database update to perform successfully. The following software issues, listed by module, will be resolved in Version 6.2: Global CM #2289: Users will no longer receive a run-time error when accessing the registry viewer via the System Information option under the Help menu. CM #2332: The Uninstall process will display the correct version of EDExpress you select to remove from your PC. CM #2379: The EDExpress installation process was redesigned to reduce the number of "componentmovedata" errors caused by conflicting DLL files. Users need to continue to fully reboot workstations following any EDExpress installation. CM #2394: An icon for 2000-2001 Getting Started online help will be added to the EDESuite Program group (from the Start button) so this information can be accessed when EDExpress is not running. CM #2547: The Global System Setup parameter for "Number of Days to Reprint Document Tracking Letters?" will correctly suppress the print of letters within the appropriate date range for omission. CM #2567: File Management setup will allow the use of hyphens in default import and export paths and will not generate a software start-up message indicating the directories are invalid. CM #2577: Columns appearing on various EDExpress grids (File | Open menu, Tools | Browse options) can be resized by the user. CM #2604: The Repair and Compact utility will no longer lock the database prior to running. A warning message has been added advising users to ensure all users are logged out of the software prior to running the utilities. CM #2610: User Database fields and data created and entered in Version 6.1 or earlier will be accessible following an upgrade to Version 6.2. CM #2626: System Information on DLL files will be accessible in Version 6.2. Application Processing CM #2291: FAA adjustments made to a student record will now be included in the calculation when running an EFC calculation. CM #2388 and #2390: Application Processing External Export will correctly export ISIR comment code information. Also, record layouts for Application Processing File Format codes will no longer contain duplicate field listings, which were affecting the record length on the report(s). CM #2420: The TG# field displayed on export screens will no longer allow the entry of a number longer than five digits. For example, for TG51234, the software will only allow you to enter 51234. CM #2432: Several ISIR comment codes (#'s 33, 53, 58, and 120) have been updated in the software to reflect recent changes. CM #2437: EDExpress will only display an asterisk (*) next to the EFC on the SAR/ISIR tab if the transaction is selected for verification. CM #2448: EDExpress will no longer generate an illegal operation error when printing multiple times from the print preview window of the EFC Recalculation screen on the FAFSA tab. CM #2479: ISIR Comment Code 245 will print the correct message: "Direct Loan Servicing Center, Utica, NY, 1-800-848-0979 (00100)" CM #2488: Selection criteria on Application Processing export screens will be updated to use Global queries. CM #2491: The text for ISIR Comment Codes 142 and 144 were revised as follows: #142: "The Immigration and Naturalization Service could not confirm your statement that you are an eligible alien because there is a question about your alien registration number. You must submit proof of your alien eligibility to your school. If you fail to submit proof within 30 days, or longer if your school allows, you may be found ineligible for federal student aid." #144: "The Immigration and Naturalization Service did not confirm your statement that you are an eligible alien. You must submit proof of your alien eligibility to your school. If you fail to submit proof within 30 days, or longer if your school allows, you may be found ineligible for federal student aid." CM #2498: The FAFSA fields "Father's Last Name" and "Mother's Last Name" will export from EDExpress in left-justified format. CM #2521 and #2656: ISIR Comment Code 53 will no longer trigger the SAR-C flag. Also, the text of Comment Code 53 was revised to read as follows: You left "Drug Conviction Elig?" blank. IF YOU HAVE A DRUG CONVICTION, you MUST answer this question. Your failure to accurately answer this question could result in legal action against you by the U.S. Government. Call 1-800-4FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or visit www.fafsa.ed.gov on the web to determine your answer to this item, or if you need additional help. A drug conviction does not necessarily disqualify you from receiving student aid. Please note the actual Comment Code text is still under review by the Department and may be changed again after the distribution of this message. CM #2534: EDExpress was updated to perform tax calculations using the 2000-2001 standard deduction amounts, exemption amounts, and taxable income ranges. CM #2540: Federal School Codes available under Tools | Setup | Global | Institution will also be available as code choices under Tools | Setup | App Express | System and on the ISIR and FAFSA tabs. CM #2554: Application Processing Query was updated to allow for querying on a value of "3" (Ineligible or don't know) for FAFSA Question #28 (Drug Conviction). CM #2566: The online help text for FAA Adjustment was updated to remove references to the non-existent "screen 4." CM #2575: Upon ISIR import, the data for the fields "Assume Student is Married" and "Assumed Student Marital Status" will be placed in the correct database position. In previous EDExpress versions this data was being reversed. Please note this fix will not correct ISIR records imported into EDExpress prior to the Version 6.2 upgrade. CM #2582: Printed ISIRs will correctly display the appropriate Application Source Site data. CM #2585: The Application Received Date will no longer print the Transaction Receipt Date value on ISIRs imported after Version 6.2 is installed. Please note this fix will not correct ISIR print for records imported prior to the Version 6.2 upgrade. CM #2588: Users printing multiple ISIRs can combine the print screen criteria options of "Batch ID" and "Transaction Preference?" and the software will apply the criteria correctly, instead of printing all student ISIRs. CM #2603: The Electronic Version Number will be in the correct position in ISIR Duplicate Request export files. CM #2627: The reference to "1998 Total Number of Exemptions" has been removed from the online help text. CM #2659: ISIR Comment Code 69 has been updated to read "Bachelor's Degree by 7-1-2000." Packaging CM #2409: A vertical scroll bar will no longer appear on the right side of the Awards tab when monitor resolution is set to 800 by 600. CM #2459: Packaging ISIR import will verify an existing, valid Academic Year Profile code is typed on the import screen before allowing the import to proceed. Direct Loan CM #2522: The EDExpress Federal School Code database table has been updated to accurately reflect certain codes beginning with an "E" as Direct Loan school codes. CM #2571: If the Loan Period Code is updated for a loan at "N" (Not Ready) status, the anticipated disbursements will not be calculated and will remain at zero until the loan is originated. CM #2572: Users can successfully change a Loan Period Code on a loan record to "01" when using the External Import Change process. CM #2573: EDExpress online help text has been expanded to include descriptions on how to link a Stafford loan to a Master Promissory Note when on the Loan tab. CM #2608: Multiple promissory note print will filter on first name and middle initial in addition to last name when selecting Last Name Order for sort order. CM #2629: If an end-of-entry edit is prompted for an individual record when posting subsequent disbursements via Multiple Entry, the software will complete the update process and list the edit on the Edit Report.
