PublicationDate: 2/23/2000 Summary: Availability of EDExpress Version 6.0.1 Service Release Author: General Manager: SFA Student Channel Posted on February 23, 2000 TO: All EDExpress Users FROM: U.S. Department of Education RE: Availability of EDExpress Version 6.0.1 Service Release The Department wishes to alert all 2000-2001 EDExpress users to the availability of service release Version 6.0.1. This is an upgrade to Version 6.0, and will resolve two issues in the Application Processing module. Version 6.0.1 is available for download from the Internet at http://fsadownload.ed.gov/index.htm. The downloadable install file, called EDExpress601.exe, is self-extracting and will need to be run on ALL PC workstations that access the 2000-2001 EDExpress database. The two issues resolved by Version 6.0.1 are explained below: 1) Version 6.0.1 will update 2000-2001 EDExpress to correctly calculate values for the 2000-2001 Expected Family Contribution (EFC) for Formula 1, Dependent Student (Full Calculation). There was a change in this area required in the 1998 Reauthorization of the Higher Education Amendments that was not incorporated into EDExpress Version 6.0. Step 11 of Formula 1 should read "If Parents' AAI (Adjusted Available Income) is negative: STI (Student's Total Income) + AAI = Adjusted STI." The current specifications in Step 11 reference AI (Available Income). This correction was made to the 2000-2001 Central Processing System (CPS) prior to start up, and all CPS outputs are calculated correctly. 2) The Automatic Zero EFC edits will be updated by Version 6.0.1 to assign a zero EFC to FAFSA applicants whose income (as used in the EFC calculation) is $13,000 or less and who also meet the other criteria for receiving an Automatic Zero EFC. To run the service release install, download the EDExpress601.exe file from the SFAdownload site to a directory on your hard drive or network. Close all running applications, go to Start | Run, type in the directory location of the downloaded file, type the file name itself (I.E. C: then click OK. This will extract the necessary install files and automatically launch the install program. If you have multiple PC workstations accessing a networked EDExpress database, copy the install file from PC to PC, running the install on each as you proceed, or run the installation program from the network drive it is saved to. Be sure to reboot each PC Version 6.0.1 is installed on once the installation program is complete. Version 6.0.1 will not perform any updates to your EDExpress database (Expres01.mdb).
