Nevertheless, we have been working for some time now to develop and test contingency plans that can effectively be implemented in the unlikely event of a Y2K-related system failure. The Office of Student Financial Assistance has recently issued a series of Dear Partner Letters (DPL) regarding our contingency plans. These letter are posted to ifap (http://ifap.ed.gov): GEN-99-41: This DPL retransmits information previously provided on the ED web site on recommended actions that schools may still take to mitigate against Y2K-related failures at their schools; a summary of our contingency plans that relate to schools; and a list of general resources for Y2K information. GEN-99-42: This DPL retransmits the conditions under which a school or third-party servicer, without incurring program liabilities, may use the plans to carryout critical financial aid activities. 99-L-219: This DPL retransmits information previously provided on the ED web site and includes a summary of our contingency plans that relate to lenders and a list of general resources for Y2K information. 9-G-326: This DPL: retransmits information previously provided on the ED web site and includes a summary of our contingency plans that relate to guaranty agencies and a list of general resources for Y2K information. 99-L-220; 99-L-221; and 99-L-222: These DPLs provide information under which lenders and guaranty agencies may use EDs contingency plan to carryout critical FFELP activities without incurring program liabilities. Please continue to check our ED (http://www.ed.gov) and our ifap web site for more information on Y2K. |
