PublicationDate: 10/15/99 Summary: Distribution of 1999-2000 EDExpress, Version 5.4 Author: PSS - Program Systems Service Posted on October 15, 1999 TO: All Destination Points FROM: U.S. Department of Education RE: Distribution of 1999-2000 EDExpress, Version 5.4 The Department is pleased to announce the release of 1999-2000 EDExpress for Windows, Version 5.4. This version resolves several software issues present in Version 5.3. Distribution of Version 5.4 to all participating EDE institutions will complete by the end of October. Version 5.4 is an upgrade to Version 5.3. Please note you must continue to have Windows 95, NT or 98 as your PC operating system to run this version. You must also be in compliance with the system requirements outlined in Action Letter #2 (October, 1997). Before upgrading, ensure you have a valid, reliable back-up of your current productional EDExpress database (Expres90.mdb). This is extremely important! To upgrade from Version 5.3 to Version 5.4, select the custom install option during your standalone or workstation installation, and mark the checkbox for any modules you use (so module fixes can be installed). Do NOT mark the Database checkbox unless you are performing a first-time installation or wish to overwrite your Version 5.3 database. Remember, if you choose to overwrite your database, all data previously entered will be lost. After you upgrade from Version 5.3 to 5.4, reboot your PC, then log on to EDExpress to allow the software to perform a one-time only database update. This update makes important changes and fixes to your database structure. If you are running EDExpress in a network environment, you should first complete ALL of your workstation installations on all relevant production PCs, rebooting each PC as you finish the install, then access the software from ONE designated workstation to allow the database update to perform successfully. NOTE: You MUST perform your upgrades in version number order. If you have not yet upgraded from Version 5.2 to 5.3, please do so using the above directions prior to upgrading to Version 5.4. Between each version upgrade you MUST reboot and access the EDExpress software to allow the software to perform the database update as directed above.
