PublicationDate: 3/16/99 Summary: UPCOMING AUTOMATIC MESSAGE CLASS UPDATE ON TIV WAN Author: TIV/WAN - Title IV Wan Customer Service Posted on May 6, 1999 TO: ALL TITLE IV WAN DESTINATION POINTS FROM: U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION RE: UPCOMING AUTOMATIC MESSAGE CLASS UPDATE ON TIV WAN DATE: March 16, 1999 On March 19, 1999, Title IV WAN will send the message class "Messagtb" to all users. EDconnect will automatically request, download, and import this new message table with your connection to the network. After the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message table will be used from that point onward. This messagtb file will add one new NSLDS message class to your Message Class table, and delete an existing NSLDS message class in EDconnect. The new message class will be called "TEFFILOP," and the description will appear as "Threshold, Error/Field Codes." This new message class will use "TG50012" as a user ID, and the record length will appear as "80". The deleted message class is TEFFILOP. You probably will not notice the above actions, except for an Import Dialog Box, which will appear on your screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing. It is very important that you DO NOT click on the CANCEL button during the import procedure. If you cancel the automatic update, you will need to import the file manually. USING MULTIPLE PC's: If you had performed a network install of EDconnect 2.3.0, with numerous workstations, the new message table will copy to the edconn.mdb file that is on your network drive. The individual workstations all will have access to the new message table after it has imported. If you run multiple stand-alone PC's, only the PC that downloads the MESSAGTB will have its message class database updated. Other Stand-alone PC's will need to have the MESSAGTB file manually imported. You can copy the received MESSAGTB.*** file onto a diskette and manually import the file into the EDconnect software located on the other stand-alone PC's. If you have questions on manually importing this file please call Title IV WAN Customer Service at 800 615 1189. It is also important to remember if you ever re-install the EDconnect software, you must manually import the MESSAGTB file, or make a request to Title IV WAN Customer Service to restore the most recent MESSAGTB to your mailbox. MAINFRAME USERS: You will need to retrieve the MESSAGTB file from your mailbox. Your receive statement should specify FLT=73 because it is a Compressed file. Decompress this file at a logical record length of 80. This file will list one record for each current and deleted message Class. Compare this file with the previous message table to determine which message classes have been added or updated. If you have any questions about the message table, call Title IV WAN at 1-800-615-1189 or via electronic mail at T4WAN@NCS.COM. |
