PublicationDate: 12/11/98 Summary: Tip of the Week - Using On-Line Help Author: CPS - Central Processing System (CPS) Posted December 11, 1998 TO: All Destination Points FROM: CPS Customer Service RE: Tip of the Week --- Using On-Line Help This week's tip features a major process or function in U.S. Department of Education software: Using On-Line Help. Institutions using U.S Department of Education software such as EDExpress, Pell Payment, SSCR-32, or FISAP regularly contact CPS Customer Service for assistance with specific software functionality or processes. To provide additional assistance to our regular software users, as well as new institutions using our software for the first time, we wish to reiterate some basic guidelines on using the extensive on-line help features offered in each product we release. On-line help can generally be accessed in two ways --- globally or while on a specific data field. To access the global on-line help from the main screen of the software you are using, click on the Help tool bar option, then one of the options listed. We recommend you use either "Contents" or "How do I?" if you have a specific inquiry. With both choices, you can click on the default topics that appear for more information, or click on the "search" button to browse the different topics (listed by field name or process). You can also access view system information, obtain customer service contact information, and check the software version you're running via the global Help menu. The other method of using the on-line help is via a specific data field. While your cursor is on a particular data entry field in the software (such as college grade level on the FAFSA tab in EDExpress), you can access the help topic for the field by hitting the F1 key. This feature can be particularly helpful if you are unsure as to the purpose of the field or what its valid field content is. If you have any questions, please contact CPS Customer Service at 1-800-330-5947, or via e-mail at CPS@NCS.COM. |
