RE: Tip of the Week- Using Aid Type codes in EDExpress
Packaging

This week's Tip highlights a specific feature or process in the EDExpress software:
Using Aid Type codes in EDExpress Packaging

Feature/Process: In the Packaging module of EDExpress for Windows, funds to be
utilized are defined under Tools/Setup/Packaging/Fund Maintenance. Aid Type is a
required field to save a fund profile. The Aid Type value tells EDExpress the kind of
fund you are creating, and in some circumstances will ensure federal eligibility
requirements for awarding limits are followed. Selecting the correct Aid Type code is
critical.

NOTE: To print a list of valid Aid Type codes, go to the topic "Aid Type (Fund
Maintenance dialog box)" under "Help/How do I...?/Search". A list of Aid Type codes
may also be found on pages 19-20 of your 1998-99 Packaging Desk Reference.

Why you should use it: Aid types such as "F" (for Federal Pell Grant), "S" (for Stafford
Subsidized loan) and "U" (for Stafford Unsubsidized loan) govern how these funds are
awarded during the package process. For example, EDExpress will check for need, valid
EFC range, prior degree indicators and college grade level before awarding any Pell
funds to a student record. The software will check need and college grade level to award
Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans. This saves you time from having to create queries
to correctly award these funds. Other aid types, such as "G" (all other grants, including
SEOG), "W" (for Federal Work-Study) and "K" (for Federal Perkins loans) check on the
awarding percentages in your Academic Year Profile.
