PublicationDate: 4/13/98 Summary: Tip of the Week: Clearing Record Locks Author: CPS - Central Processing System (CPS) Posted April 13, 1998 TO: All EDExpress Users FROM: CPS Customer Service RE: Tip of the Week: Clearing Record Locks This week's tip highlights a specific feature or process in the EDExpress software: Clearing Record Locks Situation: Record locking prevents multiple users in a networked environment from accessing the same student record at the same time. Occasionally, record locks are not cleared if a record or the system is exited incorrectly (for example, the system locks up and you have to reboot while EDExpress was running). You may then receive the message "Already logged in" when you restart EDExpress and attempt to log in. Record locking can also occur in a non-networked environment if a record or the system is exited incorrectly, in which case you may then receive the message "Record in use by: (Your Login ID)." Resolution for the "Already logged in" message: The user who has System Administrator access needs to log into EDExpress and under Tools/Setup/Global/Security Users unmark the "Logged In" checkbox for the user who is unable to log in. Note: If the "Logged In" checkbox is grayed out, you are not the System Administrator. The System Administrator defaults to the first User ID established after installation of EDExpress and can be manually changed under Security Users setup. Resolution for the "Record in use" message: Go to Tools/Utilities/Clear Files, select Record Lock Database from the dropdown box, and click OK.
