PublicationDate: 6/4/98 Summary: Reprocessing Records for Missing INS Verification Numbers Author: CPS - Central Processing System (CPS) Posted June 4, 1998 To: All Financial Aid Administrators From: Central Processing System Date: June 4, 1998 RE: Reprocessing Records for Missing INS Verification Numbers We have discovered that INS Verification Numbers were missing from a very small number of 1998-99 SAR and ISIR records whenever the first match with the INS was the result of a correction record rather than from an original FAFSA application. The INS Verification Number is sent to the CPS from INS on a match record whether the match results are "Y" or "N". The INS Verification Number is sent to the CPS from INS on a match record whether the match results are "Y" or "N". The INS Verification Number is then used by the FAA on the G-845 Form to the INS requesting Secondary Verification. Without the INS Verification Number, INS will not perform Secondary Confirmation. Since Secondary Confirmation is only necessary on INS match results of "N", the CPS will reprocess only the records with "N" match results to provide the INS Verification Numbers. There are 739 records which will be reprocessed on 6/5/98. These records can be identified by the System Generated indicator of "Z" (ISIR field #206), the transaction processed date of 6/5/98 (ISIR field #207), the batch ID of Y900000019980605000001 (ISIR field #209), and the reprocessed reason code of 03 (ISIR field 273). In addition to comments related to the INS Match, standard comment 172 (which identifies a CPS reprocessed record) will be created for these transactions.
