Re: Reprocessing Of Applicant Records To Convert G And E Codes To
Valid Title IV Application Codes

Date: May 13, 1997

The Department of Education has asked CPS to reprocess records which contain
invalid application codes. These transactions currently contain Direct Loan codes that
have associated Title IV application codes.

A maximum of 5,637 students were affected. Any records that have already been
corrected to update the institution code(s) will not be reprocessed.

CPS will be reprocessing the affected records on May 15, 1997. This means the
associated ISIRs will be available on the network no later than May 16. Not every
destination point will receive a batch resulting from this reprocessing.

These reprocessed records can be identified in a number of ways. The ISIRs will list
comment code 172 and the batch number will be "#Y000000051497801".
Additionally, a reprocessing reason code of 03 will be in positions 1454-1455 of the
ISIR record.

On April 24, the CPS system was modified to convert an invalid G or E code to a valid
Title IV application processing code when it is received as part of an application or
correction from either a paper or electronic source. This modification will prevent
any further ISIRs or SARs from being generated containing a Direct Loan institution
code.
