Subject: Renewal Application Processing

On February 5, the Central Processing System (CPS) posted a
message concerning a problem that affected 1997-98 Renewal
Applications filed by certain students. The affected students were
independent students who did not supply parental data, and who also
validated an institution name preprinted on the application instead of
entering a new institution. The earlier message reported that this
problem was fixed on January 31; however, the corrected program
was not implemented until February 17.

An additional 73,699 records that meet the criteria described above
were processed between February 1 and 17, and will be reprocessed
on February 21. The CPS will transmit the ISIRs for the reprocessed
records during the weekend of February 22-23, and will begin
printing SARs on February 24. The reprocessing reason code
appearing in the FAA Information sections for these SARs and ISIRs
will be "02." National Computer Systems apologizes for any
inconvenience this may cause.
