RE: Patch File Available for EDExpress Version 5.3

As reported recently, the Department is releasing a software patch
file to resolve Direct Loan and Pell import errors in EDExpress Version
5.3. This patch file is now available for FTP download by schools. It will
resolve two recently discovered issues in Version 5.3 by overwriting the
.DLL files on your PC workstations that are
generating the import error
messages.

The two issues resolved by the patch are:

1) If you attempt to import a large number of records into the
Direct Loan module, you may receive an "Out of Memory" or "Can't open any
more tables" error. The actual number of records necessary to trigger one
of these errors will vary depending on your available system resources.
This problem is caused by a memory leak during Direct Loan imports.
Once the patch file is installed, you will be able to properly load records
into the Direct Loan module.

2) EDExpress is also generating batch integrity errors when importing
Pell Origination acknowledgement files for more than 175 records or Pell
Disbursement acknowledgements for more than 97 records. Once the
patch file is installed, you will be able to import these files and any future
acknowledgement files for any number of Pell Origination and/or Disbursement
records.

The patch is located on a CPS FTP site at:

ftp://t4wanupt:hyrkbt@gsd-ftp.ic.ncs.com/index.htm. First, download the
file called EDExpress53SR1.exe to a predetermined directory on your hard drive
(such as your temp directory) by clicking on the "EDExpress Service
Release for v5.3.0" link. Once the download is completed, launch the patch
installation by double-clicking on the Express53a.exe file in Windows
Explorer or File Manager, or by going to Starttyping in the file
location and name, and clicking OK.

Once launched, this self-extracting file will guide you through the
installation process. If you have Version 5.3 installed in a network
environment, install the patch on every workstation used to access your
networked database. This procedure will not affect your EDExpress
database, so no data will be lost as a result of the patch installation.

If your school does not have FTP download capability, please contact
