On May 31, June 3,4,5 and 6, 1996 the CPS reprocessed a total of 367,454
records to provide correct NSLDS data that had previously been provided
incorrectly on SARs and ISIRs. It was discovered that Direct Loan records
to the NSLDS had been duplicated and that the Washington state guarantee
agency also provided incorrect data to NSLDS. The corrected updates to
the NSLDS database were completed on March 20, 1996. Any application
or correction processed after that date was not affected by the incorrect data.

To identify the reprocessed SARs and ISIRs, look System Generated
Indicator of Z, comment 172 and the above process dates. For ISIRs field
#205, Batch Number (position 906-922) is equal to one of the following
batch numbers: #Y000000052996705; #Y000000053096705;
#Y000000053196705; #Y000000060396705; or #Y000000060496705.

IMPORTANT: CPS selected the records to reprocess on approximately
May 7, 1996, three weeks prior to the actual reprocessing. During the three
weeks students may have made corrections which were not considered in the
new transaction generated by the reprocess. In this situation, the transaction
with the corrections, complete with valid NSLDS data, is valid and may be
used. The subsequent, reprocessed transaction may be ignored.

Further, Massachusetts guarantee agency (ACA) has also discovered that
incorrect loan data was reported to NSLDS beginning April 1, 1996. The
NSLDS data base was updated on June 22, 1996. NSLDS and CPS are
working to determine which applicant records were affected by
Massachusetts' incorrect loan data between these dates. CPS will reprocess
the records providing new SARs to students and ISIRs to schools. We will
inform you of the reprocess dates and other developments as that information
is available.
