RE: Electronic Corrections & Dependency status changes
Date: June 17, 1997

Previously, two electronic corrections were required to change an applicant's
dependency status from independent to dependent. The first correction changed the
dependency status to dependent and added parental data but didn't not apply the
parental signature (generating a transaction with a reject 15: no parent signature). The
second correction, performed on the transaction generated from the first correction,
applied the parental signatures and generated a transaction with an EFC.

The CPS was modified on May 28 to change the dependency status in a single electronic
correction. Electronic corrections which include all relevant parental data, dependency
status question changes, and parental signature codes will generate a new transaction
which has a valid EFC. A second electronic correction won't be required to apply the
signatures.
