RE: Distribution of 1999-2000 EDExpress Version 5.3 and SSCR-32, Version 1.2

This message announces the release of 1999-2000 EDExpress for Windows, Version 5.3, and provides instructions for installing it on your computer. Included in this release is SSCR-32, Version 1.2.

We Are Releasing the New EDExpress

We are releasing 1999-2000 EDExpress for Windows, Version 5.3 This version is an upgrade to Version 5.2 and contains the Disbursement portion of the Pell module. We will complete distribution of Version 5.3 to all participating EDE institutions by the middle of July.

How to Install EDExpress

Note
: You must have Windows 95, NT, or 98 as your PC operating system to run this version. You must also be in compliance with the system requirements outlined in Action Letter #2 (October 1997).

Follow these steps to ensure that your software is properly installed:

1) Perform Database Backup

We strongly recommend you perform a full backup of your current EDExpress database (Expres90.mdb) before you install Version 5.3. This is extremely important!

2) Perform Upgrade Installation

Note: You must perform your upgrades in version number order. If you have not yet upgraded from Version 5.1 to 5.2, please do so using the following directions.

To Upgrade from Version 5.1 to Version 5.2: Select the custom install option during your stand-alone or workstation installation. Mark the checkbox for Pell and any other modules you use (so module fixes can also be installed). Do NOT mark the "Database" checkbox unless you intend to perform a first-time installation or want to overwrite your Version 5.1 database. If you choose to overwrite your database, you will lose all data that you previously entered.

Important: After you upgrade from Version 5.1 to 5.2, reboot your PC. Log on to EDExpress. The software will perform a one-time only database update. This update makes important changes and fixes to your database structure.

To Upgrade from Version 5.2 to Version 5.3: Select the custom install option during your stand-alone or workstation installation. Mark the checkbox for Pell and any other modules you use (so module fixes can also be installed). Do NOT mark the "Database" checkbox unless you intend to perform a first-time installation or want to overwrite your Version 5.2 database. If you mark the "Database" checkbox, your database will be overwritten and all data previously entered is lost.

Important: After you upgrade from Version 5.2 to 5.3, reboot your PC. Log on to EDExpress. The software will perform a one-time only database update. This update makes important changes and fixes to your database structure.

Special Note: If you are running EDExpress in a network environment, you should first complete ALL of your workstation installations on all relevant production PCs, reboot each PC as you finish the install, then access the software from ONE designated workstation to allow the database update to perform successfully.
