| PublicationDate: 12/8/98 Summary: Correction to Phone Number - Status of EAC Site and Printing of 1999-2000 Renewal FAFSAs Author: PSS - Program Systems Service Posted December 8, 1998 To: All Title IV Institutions From: U.S. Department of Education Re: Status of Electronic Access Code (EAC) Site and Printing of 1999-2000 Renewal FAFSAs -- Correction to Phone Number The U.S. Department of Education's new Electronic Access Code (EAC) web site (http://www.eac.ed.gov) was made operational on Saturday, November 28. Students needing to request EACs in preparation for filing their 1999-2000 Renewal FAFSAs may begin requesting their EACs directly from this site. Please note that students who still have their EACs from the 1998-99 cycle may continue to use those EACs to access their 1999-2000 Renewal FAFSAs. As reported in previous communications, EACs are automatically being mailed to graduate students eligible to file 1999-2000 Renewal FAFSAs and those students who filed through FAFSA on the Web in 1998-99. In response to requests from the financial aid community, the Department decided that it will forward EACs to these students if they moved and notified the U.S. Postal Service of their new address. Students requesting EACs who are not in this bulk mailing will not have their EACs forwarded. The mailing of the automatically generated EACs began on Monday, November 30. The printing of the paper Renewal applications that will be mailed to students at their permanent addresses began on November 23, and is on schedule. Renewal applications will be mailed to students living outside the continental United States first. Then we will mail the remaining Renewal applications in zip code order from the East to the West coast. The 1999-2000 FAFSA on the Web site will be available on January 4, 1999. At this time, the Department will certify browsers under the Windows 98 operating system. In February, the Department will add an estimated EFC feature to the transmission confirmation page of each student's record that has been submitted to the FAFSA on the Web server for processing. Additionally, the February release is expected to include additional browser certifications including Netscape Navigator 4.06-4.08 and Netscape Navigator 4.5. Also available on January 4, 1999 will be the 1999-2000 FAFSA Express software.
