We wish to advise institutions of four modifications to Action Letter #1 (September, 1998), which details procedures for requesting 1999-2000 Renewal Application Data (RAD) data:

1) On page two of Enclosure D ("Helpful Hints for Type 2 Requests via the Title IV WAN"), please modify the tip "TG ID in network header" to read: "If you plan to use mainframe EDconnect to transmit your Type 2 RAD Request, please use TG50002 in positions 6-12 of the network header."

When institutions using mainframe EDconnect create their Type 2 RAD request file, they must create a network header and trailer record. Positions 6-12 on the second line of the network header should not contain the institution's TG identifier provided in positions 18-24 of the Type 2 RAD Request CPS header record, as is stated in the action letter. TG50002 is the mailbox for the CPS and is the correct destination for your Type 2 RAD Request(s).

If you have already submitted a Type 2 RAD Request using a destination code in the network header other than TG50002, please correct your submittal file accordingly and retransmit. If you intend to use the EDconnect for Windows software to transmit your Type 2 RAD request, please disregard this tip.

2) In the "Renewal FAFSA Request Deadlines" section of the cover letter, please modify the second sentence of the first paragraph to read "On October 12, 1998, the CPS will begin processing requests, including requests that were made between OCTOBER 6 and OCTOBER 11."

3) In the record layout for the Trailer Record Sent to/Received from the CPS (Enclosure G), the valid field content for field #1 should be modified to read "Left justified with one blank position after CPS and ONE blank position after TRAILER." The action letter states there should be two blank positions after TRAILER. The field start and end positions provided in the layout are correct.

4) Please modify the first "Note" at the top of the Trailer Record Sent to/Received from the CPS to read "For RAD requests sent to the CPS, Field #'s 9-17 will be blank." The CPS does not require Field #9 (Total number of detail records in this batch) or the fields that follow it in the Trailer record to be populated in your Type 2 RAD Request file.
