Summary: 1996-97 FAFSA Processing Start Up
Author: PSS - Program Systems Service

Due to the shutdown of the Federal Government and to the recent passage of
the Continuing Resolution (P.L. 10499) which provided for a $100 increase in
the maximum Pell award, processing of the 1996-97 Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms was delayed. As of January 29, 1996, the
MDEs were approved to begin document analysis and data entry. The Central
Processing System is scheduled to begin production on Wednesday, January 31,
1996. The CPS will perform its first compute on Thursday, February 1, 1996.

In addition, the 1996-97 EDExpress software (DOS version) which contains
applications, renewals applications, corrections, and ISIR print is being
mailed. The Windows version of the software is currently being tested and
the Department expects to begin Windows distribution shortly.
