PublicationDate: 5/7/96 Summary: 1996-97 FAFSA Processing - Announcement #50 Author: ODAS - Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary - SFA Announcement #50, May 7, 1996 Dear Colleague: Since my last letter to you, ED has processed more than 4.7 million FAFSAs, and our processing contractors are now processing applications within the required time of fourteen days. We also have processed more than 64% of the history corrections that we have received. I have included as an attachment to this letter a more complete report on the status of processing 1996/97 FAFSAs. I wish to share with you our plans for keeping you informed about FAFSA processing. Effective today, we will begin posting these updates twice-weekly on the BBS, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will discontinue daily postings. Next week, I will include in our Tuesday BBS posting a letter that shares with you our plans for improving the efficiency of FAFSA processing in 1997/98 and avoiding the recurrence of the delays that you experienced this year. Please accept my gratitude for your help over the past two and one-half months. It is only with your cooperation and support that we have been able to achieve our goals. Respectfully submitted, Elizabeth M. Hicks Deputy Assistant Secretary Student Financial Assistance Programs.
