Dear Colleague:
We are pleased to announce an upcoming webinar in our Wednesday Webinar Series, a series of live webinars which cover a variety of topics related to the Title IV programs. The webinars provide the most recent statutory and regulatory updates and other guidance from the U.S. Department of Education (ED), including the office of Federal Student Aid. Federal Student Aid also shares operational information and reminders during the webinars. Participants are encouraged to ask questions by typing them into the chat during the webinar, and a live Q&A session follows the presentation.
Federal Student Aid staff will present the next webinar in this series in October 2025. Additional webinars that address topics of interest to the financial aid community will be announced in the future.
You do not need to register for this webinar. Participation will be available on a first-come, first- served basis, and we can accommodate up to 20,000 attendees.
Refer to the sections below for more information about the webinar, including instructions to add a reminder to your calendar.

Charges and Credit Balances
Date/Time: Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, 1–2:30 p.m. Eastern time
Understanding charges and credit balances is crucial for effective cash management. In this session, we will explore the differences between institutional, non-institutional, and excludable charges in the context of the Return of Title IV (R2T4) calculation. We will also review how to prorate institutional charges and how to apply federal student aid funds to a student’s account to cover charges, including your responsibility to provide funds to a student for books and supplies in a timely manner. Finally, we will discuss how to properly identify and pay Title IV credit balances.
