Subject: Live Internet Webinar - Default Aversion and Management
Summary: This letter announces Federal Student Aid's instructor-led, online training session on the cohort default rate process and default management, including effective default prevention strategies.
Dear Colleague:
We are pleased to announce instructor-led, online training that will discuss what schools need to know about the cohort default rate process and default management. Many schools have seen their cohort default rates rise with the extension of the default monitoring period from two years to three years, and this trend has continued with the recently-released FY 2010 3-Year cohort default rates. Institutions with rates of 30% or more for three consecutive years are required to take specific corrective action to manage and prevent future defaults, and ultimately may lose their eligibility to participate in the Title IV programs should these efforts fail.
This webinar will provide valuable information on the cohort default rate calculation, the challenges and appeals process, and required corrective action resulting from high cohort default rates. How to implement an effective default prevention strategy will also be discussed. The session is intended for financial aid professionals interested in and concerned with all aspects of default management.
We will present this information in a one-hour session offered on four separate occasions: November 19th at 11:00 A.M. (ET), November 21st at 3:00 P.M. (ET), December 10th at 4:00 P.M. (ET), and again on December 12th at 12:00 P.M. (ET).

Advance registration is required for this training and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. To allow for as many participants as possible, we strongly encourage groups to view the webinar from a single location if accommodations allow. If viewing as a group, only one person from the group needs to register.

Once registered, we will send an e-mail confirmation to the trainee. The trainee should retain this confirmation, as it contains important information, including linking and log in information for the Web site, system test links, and cancellation information. If unable to attend, we request that the trainee cancel his or her registration so that individuals who wish to attend may do so.
Important Note: The audio portion of the webinar will be streamed over the Internet. A separate telephone conference line will not be provided. To listen to the webinar, participants must be able to listen to Web-streamed audio via their computer (e.g., built-in or external speakers or headphones).
PowerPoint slides will be available for each trainee to download after he or she signs in to the webinar. During the webinar, trainees will be able to ask questions electronically using their computers.
