Subject: Live Internet Webinar - COD System and Direct Loan Update

Summary: This letter announces Federal Student Aid’s instructor-led, online training session that provides updated information on Direct Loan processing in the COD System.

Dear Colleague:

We are pleased to announce instructor-led, online training that will describe current enhancements to processing William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) data in the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System. We will discuss recent changes for the 2011-2012 Award Year, including adverse credit criteria modifications, Two Factor Authentication (TFA), and the Special Direct Consolidation Loan opportunity. In addition, we will provide information about updates for the 2012-2013 Award Year, including information on changes resulting from the Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011. Lastly, the session will review Direct Loan Program Year Closeout information for the 2010-2011 Award Year, as some institutions will be completing this process for the first time this year.

This training is intended for financial aid office personnel at both domestic and foreign schools who are interested in learning more about recent updates to Direct Loan processing in the COD System.

We will present this information in one 90-minute session offered on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. (ET) and again on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 9:00 A.M. (ET).

The March 8th session has been scheduled at a time convenient for many foreign school staff; however, both sessions are open to all participants.

Advance registration is required for this training and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. To allow for as many participants as possible, we strongly encourage groups to view the webinar from a single location if accommodations allow. If viewing as a group, only one person from the group needs to register.

To register for the webinar, click on this link:

Once registered, we will send an e-mail confirmation to the trainee. The trainee should retain this confirmation, as it contains important information, including linking and log in information for the Web site, system test links, and cancellation information. If unable to attend, we request that the trainee cancel his or her registration so that individuals who wish to attend may do so.

PowerPoint slides will be available for each trainee to download after he or she signs in to the webinar. During the webinar, trainees will be able to ask questions electronically using their computers.

We look forward to your participation in this instructor-led, online training opportunity. If you have questions about this training opportunity, please contact Wood Mason at wood.mason@ed.gov.
