Subject: Live Internet Webinar - Direct Loan Primers
Summary: This letter announces Federal Student Aid's instructor-led, online training session that provides a primer on the Direct Loan Program and its systems. This webinar updates two sessions from the previously-offered Direct Loan Webinar Training Suite.
Dear Colleague:
We are pleased to announce instructor-led, online training that will focus on the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program from a programmatic and systems perspective. Concepts, terminology, and other information needed to understand how the program works and how to manage and administer Direct Loans will be covered. Topics include processing responsibilities, origination, promissory notes, disbursement, funding, reconciliation and closeout, and servicing. The session will also provide an overview of electronic processes and systems associated with Direct Loans, including the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System, the StudentLoans.gov Web site, the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG), and G5. This training is intended for financial aid and business office staff who are new to the Direct Loan Program and who award, process, fund, or reconcile Direct Loans.
Note: Information from this session was offered in 2010 as part of the Direct Loan Webinar Training Suite. Two sessions from the suite ("Direct Loan Programmatic Primer" and "Direct Loan Systems Primer") have now been updated and combined into this single webinar. In addition:
- We will offer additional Direct Loan webinars to further update the training series in the coming months.
- One session from the Direct Loan Webinar Training Suite, "Direct Loan Reports," has already been updated and will be offered as a live webinar on November 1, 2011. See Dear Colleague Letter ANN-11-25 for schedule and registration information. If you are unable to attend the webinar, monitor the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site for a training announcement that will provide a link to a recorded version of the session.

Federal Student Aid staff will present this information in a one-hour session offered on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. (ET).

Advance registration is required for this training and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. To allow for as many participants as possible, we strongly encourage groups to view the webinar from a single location if accommodations allow. If viewing as a group, only one person from the group needs to register.

Once registered, we will send an e-mail confirmation to the trainee. The trainee should retain this confirmation, as it contains important information, including linking and log in information for the Web site, system test links, and cancellation information. If unable to attend, we request that the trainee cancel his or her registration so that individuals who wish to attend may do so.
PowerPoint slides will be available for each trainee to download after he or she signs in to the webinar. During the webinar, trainees will be able to ask questions electronically using their computers.
