Subject: Live Internet Webinars - Direct Loan Webinars for Graduate/Professional Schools

Summary: This letter announces Federal Student Aid’s instructor-led, online training sessions on Direct Loan processing for graduate/professional schools.

Dear Colleague:

We are pleased to announce instructor-led, online training for graduate/professional schools on the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program. Three webinars will be offered related to key aspects of Direct Loan processing. Each webinar is designed for financial aid staff at graduate/professionals schools that are new to the Direct Loan Program. Two of the three webinar sessions were first offered in March and April 2010. Due to high demand for this information, we are offering the webinars again in May and June 2010, and adding one new webinar session to the series (Direct Loan Processing 1, 2, 3).

We will present this information in 90-minute sessions and will offer each webinar on two different days to provide ample opportunity for those interested in attending.

The webinar “Direct Loan Basics for New Participants” provides basic information for staff at graduate/professional schools that are new to the Direct Loan Program. Topics include promissory notes, credit checks, loan origination, disbursement, funding, reconciliation, and Direct Loan resources. Key aspects of loan servicing will also be discussed, as well as information for the 2010-2011 Award Year. This webinar will be offered:

  • Tuesday, May 18, 2010, 3:00 P.M. (ET)
  • Tuesday, June 22, 2010, 3:00 P.M. (ET)

The webinar “Direct Loan Processing 1, 2, 3” provides answers to common “How do I…?” questions about processing Direct Loans, including “How do I set up Direct Loan options in the COD System? Determine whether a Master Promissory Note (MPN) or entrance counseling session has been completed? Submit an origination record? Determine funding needs? Change loan amounts or dates? Get more information?” This webinar will be offered:

  • Wednesday, May 19, 2010, 3:00 P.M. (ET)
  • Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 3:00 P.M. (ET)

The webinar “Using the COD Web Site To Assist In Direct Loan Processing” provides an overview of the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System Web site for staff at graduate/professional schools that are new to both the Direct Loan Program and the COD System. Participants will become familiar with using the COD Web site for Direct Loan processing, including how to use the Web site to resolve processing issues, to search for and view electronic Master Promissory Notes (eMPNs), and more. This webinar will be offered:

  • Thursday, May 20, 2010, 3:00 P.M. (ET)
  • Thursday, June 24, 2010, 3:00 P.M. (ET)
