Dear Colleague:

We are pleased to announce our online, instructor-led training on Direct Loan Program Overview for school financial aid administrators and their staff. This one hour and thirty minute session will be offered on June 16 and July 11, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Central Time.

The Direct Loan Program Overview training session is intended to provide introductory level information to staff new to the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program, as well as for those who may be interested in learning more about the program. This overview will cover the roles of each participant in the Direct Loan program: schools, students and FSA. The basic steps involved in the Direct Lending process will be covered: loan origination; Master Promissory Note processing, funding and disbursement, monthly reconciliation and year-end closeout. The various options available to schools in each step of the process will be covered. Borrower benefits and the resources and support available to both schools and students will also be discussed.

This training will be conducted using Federal Student Aid's distance education software, which allows you to participate without leaving your desk. Registration is required for this training. Note: We have recently upgraded our Distance Education System. The new system requires the installation of new browser plug-in software to your system for full functionality. This may take as long as 30 minutes to download and install. You may need to contact your IT department in order to accomplish the upgrade. We will be unable to assist you with the installation in the 30 minutes prior to the training session and ask that you take time now to install the browser plug-ins.
