SFA Spring Conference

Dear Partner:

We are changing our annual conferences so we can serve the entire student aid community better. This fall, we expanded the scope of our Electronic Access Conferences (EACs) to make them more interesting and valuable to all – those using Direct Loans as well as those involved in Federal Family Education Loans. The results have been gratifying – higher attendance then ever, and more positive evaluations than ever.

We are doing the same thing for our spring conference – expanding and enriching it to appeal to the complete community. If you liked the old Direct Loan Conference, you will get all that information in the new “SFA Spring Conference”, including sessions on Common Origination and Disbursement, Verification, Quality Assurance, Reauthorization, Policy and Program Updates, and much more. We will also use this opportunity to share experiences and best practices drawn from the whole mosaic of student aid.

Please reserve March 6-8, 2002, on your calendar for the first annual Spring Update Conference. The conference will be held in Baltimore, Maryland, at the Marriott Baltimore Waterfront Hotel on Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

To register and read about our SFA Spring Conference online, go to http://fsaconferences.ed.gov/index.html. You can book your hotel room online at http://www.marriott.com by using the Group Code USGUSGA. Or, call the hotel at 800-228-9290 or 410-385-3000. The room rate is $169 plus 12.5% tax single or double occupancy and the reservation cut-off date is January 29. The hotel is located at 700 Aliceanna Street, Baltimore, MD 21202. If attendance goes as expected, the number of rooms will become limited, so we encourage you to make your reservation now.

Discounted airfares are available for all conference participants. To receive your discount when booking, go online or call one of the following airlines and be sure to give them the reference number:

American Airlines – www.aa.com; 800-433-1790; reference number 14343

Delta Airlines – www.delta.com; 800-241-6760; reference number DMN182672A

United Airlines – www.ual.com; 800-521-4041; reference number 549WA

The Quality Assurance & Experimental Sites Conference at the same location on March 4-5, 2002 will precede this conference. Go to http://fsaconferences.ed.gov/index.html for more information. Additionally, we’d like to announce the dates and locations for our two EACs we’ve planned for 2002. The EACs will be held from November 4-7, in Orlando, Florida, and from December 3-6, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As always, we welcome your ideas and feedback. We look forward to serving you at these conferences.

Sincerely,

Greg Woods
