SUMMARY: This letter announces a workshop, "Electronics: The
Wave of the Future," to be held on November 14-17
in Anaheim, California.

Dear Colleague:

The Department of Education cordially invites you to attend a
workshop entitled "Electronics: The Wave of the Future," at the
Anaheim Hotel in Anaheim, California. This four-day workshop
will offer participants an opportunity to learn about and provide
comments on the Department's electronic products/processes. Some
of the major topics of discussion will include:

- Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) Basics
- What's New for 1995-96 - EDE/Direct Loan Software Updates
- How to Implement EDE/Direct Loans in a Mainframe
Environment and at a Small Institution
- In-depth Sessions on Direct Loan Software
- Pell Payment Reporting Options
- Application and Renewal Application Processing Update
- Default Reduction Assistance Program
- Using EDE at State Agencies
- Using Query Management in EDExpress
- EDE PC/LAN Configuration Issues
- Training on EDE/Direct Loan Mainframe Specifications

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to attend a three-
hour video conference entitled "Getting Started with EDE." This
video conference will be sponsored by the Department of Education
and will include:

- EDE and GES Basics
- Entering and Transmitting FAFSA Data
- Retrieving ESAR Information from GES and CPS

The video conference will begin at 9:00 am on Monday, November
14, at the hotel. The concurrent sessions will begin promptly at
2:00 pm. The registration desk will be open Sunday, November 13
from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm and again on Monday beginning at 8:00 am.

If you do not plan to attend the video conference on Monday, please
come early anyway. Registration, the PC Lab and the information
desk will be open starting at 8:00 am. On Monday, November 14
through Wednesday, November 16, the sessions will start at 9:00 am
and end at 5:00 pm, and on Thursday, November 17, the sessions
will begin at 9:00 am and end at 12:00 noon.

A discount has been arranged with Delta Airlines for travel to Los
Angeles International Airport or John Wayne/Orange County
Airport. To take advantage of Delta's service, follow these steps:

1. Call, or have your travel agent call, 1-800-241-6760
from 8:00 am - 11:00 pm Eastern Time - Daily.

2. Refer to File Number: J1394 when making reservations.

Upon arrival at the airport, please proceed to the Ground
Transportation Area. We have selected Super Shuttle to provide
transportation to the Anaheim Marriott Hotel. From the Los Angeles
International Airport to the Anaheim Marriott Hotel it is $13.00 per
person each way and from John Wayne/Orange County Airport to
the hotel it is $10.00 per person each way.

Make your own hotel reservations by calling "Connections" directly
at (404)842-0000 or 1(800)262-9974. A block of rooms has been
reserved for November 13-17 at a special rate of $90.00 plus 13%
sales tax (same rate for single or double). When making your
reservations, please specify that you will be attending the
Department of Education workshop.

A registration form is enclosed and should be completed and
returned by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1994. There are no
registration fees for this workshop. We encourage your
IMMEDIATE response since the workshop attendance is limited to
the first 1200 respondents. Please FAX your form to the attention of
