Federal Student Aid is pleased to release a draft of the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The questions on the 2008-2009 FAFSA are virtually the same as those on the 2007-2008 paper application, with minor changes to the application instructions. In instances where data collection instruments have minimal change, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) provides a simplified clearance process. This process eliminates the requirement that Federal Student Aid publish a Federal Register Notice soliciting public comment. Since there will not be a Federal Register Notice this year, the traditional 60-day and 30-day public comments periods we've provided in the past will be managed differently.

In an effort to make sure you are updated with the most recent draft of the 2008-2009 FAFSA and to assure that you have a forum to provide comments, Federal Student Aid is posting this IFAP notice. In addition to this notice, we have contacted our constituent organizations that traditionally provide feedback on the FAFSA to make sure they are aware of this change. We welcome your comments, ideas and suggestions about the FAFSA. If you wish to provide comments, please write to us at FAFSAComments@ed.gov. We ask that you provide your comments by July 31, 2007.
