Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) Overview

The Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) is a primary routing system through which partners exchange financial aid data with FSA systems. Eligible partners are required to enroll for SAIG to access certain FSA systems/services and to exchange information electronically.

The electronic SAIG mailbox serves as a routing address used by the SAIG system when determining where a given data transmission between an organization and FSA system should go. Each SAIG mailbox is identified by a TG or FT Number that is assigned by Partner Connect. TG or FT Number is a five-digit alphanumeric number, preceded by “TG” or “FT”. Each organization must determine which services are needed and enroll appropriate individuals for the specific services that they need to access.

To access SAIG mailboxes partners must install Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) software - EDconnect (PC-based) or TDClient (Mainframe/Midrange).

SAIG Mailbox Types

An electronic mailbox that is established by the Primary Administrator. All additional non-primary organization's SAIG mailboxes (Test, Batch, Individual, and FT) are established and managed by the Primary or Secondary Administrator under the hierarchy of the Primary SAIG Mailbox.

An electronic mailbox that is used to enroll for batch services.

An electronic mailbox that is used to assign online services for individual users.

An electronic mailbox that is used for testing purposes without any enrollments attached.

An electronic mailbox that is designated to receive files that contain federal tax information (FTI) such as Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs).

**FT Mailbox use should be restricted to those users that must have access to the application, award, and administration of student financial aid programs as this mailbox contains ISIRs with FTI data. Primary and Secondary Administrators must carefully review and consider user access for FT Mailbox. Unauthorized inspection and disclosure of FTI may include civil and/or criminal penalties under 26 USC 7213, 7213A, 7431.

SAIG Mailbox User Types

The Primary Administrator is the SAIG Mailbox Owner of the Primary SAIG Mailbox. If there is an FT Mailbox tied to the Primary SAIG Mailbox, the SAIG Mailbox Owner will remain the same as the Primary SAIG Mailbox.

The Batch SAIG Mailbox User is the SAIG Mailbox Owner of the Batch SAIG Mailbox. If there is an FT Mailbox tied to the Batch SAIG Mailbox, the SAIG Mailbox Owner will remain the same as the Batch SAIG Mailbox.

The Individual SAIG Mailbox User is the SAIG Mailbox Owner of the Individual SAIG Mailbox.

The Test SAIG Mailbox Owner is the SAIG Mailbox Owner of the Test SAIG Mailbox.
