Subject: Gainful Employment Electronic Announcement #63 - Updated NSLDS Gainful Employment User Guide

We are pleased to announce the availability of an updated version of the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Gainful Employment User Guide, now available on the NSLDS User Documentation page on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site.

Updates to the guide include the addition of Chapter 5, to provide high-level information about the GE Completers List. The GE final regulations provide that the Department will create a list of students who completed a GE program during the applicable cohort period, using data provided by the institution. This list is referred to as the GE Completers List. Later this year, NSLDS will generate and send to the SAIG mailbox designated by each school a Draft GE Completers List. Schools will have 45 days to review and challenge the information in the file. NSLDS will then send each school its Final GE Completers List.

Refer to Chapter 5 of the updated guide for a discussion of the GE Completers List, where it originates, and how to request a duplicate. In addition, Appendix B of the updated guide now includes the format for the GE Completers List Report, a school-requested report that will provide the data that was used to create the school's GE Completers List. Appendix C provides the file layout for the GE Completers List that NSLDS will push to schools.

The updated guide can also be downloaded from the "Resources" section of the Gainful Employment Information Page.

Note: To assist schools with understanding how to read the GE Completers List, we will offer a webinar in November on how to use the list, and we encourage schools with questions about the report to attend. Monitor the IFAP Web site for a forthcoming Training Announcement with schedule and registration information.
